During the Day of the Devs 2024: Summer Game Fest, the release date for this unique project was officially announced. UFO 50 includes a variety of single-player and multiplayer games, spanning platformers, shoot ’em ups, puzzle games, roguelites, and RPGs. The goal of the developers at Mossmouth is to combine an 8-bit aesthetic with modern design.
What we learned from the newly released trailer is that these are not mini-games. While each game varies in size, every one is a complete experience with its own title, intro, and ending. According to the premise, the games were created by a fictional 1980s company that was obscure but ahead of its time. Some games act as sequels to others in the collection, and characters appear across multiple titles as part of a shared continuity.
All 50 games are available from the start, inspired by multicart collections and the feeling of visiting a friend and browsing their game library. Each game uses a unique 32-color palette to resemble an authentic 8-bit title from the 1980s. Additionally, half of the collection features local multiplayer, including co-op and versus modes.
UFO 50 officially launches for PC via Steam on September 15.
