UFO 50 has unexpectedly taken the top spot on the Nintendo Switch eShop. The collection of 50 retro-style games, released in late 2024 by Mossmouth, shot to #1 just days after being featured for a mere five seconds during a Nintendo Indie World Showcase presentation.
Created by a team of indie developers that includes Derek Yu (Spelunky) and Ojiro Fumoto (Downwell), this remarkable anthology is designed to evoke the classic 8-bit era. It uses a unified 32-color palette to create a nostalgic look that it then combines with modern gameplay innovations. The collection features a wide variety of genres, including platformers, shoot-’em-ups, roguelites, and RPGs.
Here are the top 15 games on the Nintendo Switch 2 eShop for the week of August 9, 2025:
1. UFO 50
2. Super Mario Party Jamboree
3. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
4. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
5. Tiny Book Shop
